Technical Advisor CAVA II, Uganda.
Prof George William Otim-Nape is the Technical Advisor in the CAVA II Project, at Africa Innovations Institute Uganda. He is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Africa Innovations Institute; and has been a visiting Professor, University of Greenwich, UK. Since 2004. He is recognised as one of East Africa’s leading agricultural and rural development experts with over thirty five years experience in science and technology development and institutional and change management for Africa agriculture development.
He has demonstrated strategic leadership and management of agricultural and rural development, working extensively with international organisations, central and local government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the private sector and farmers. He has outstanding experience in science and innovations, development, strategic planning, organisational and institutional development, research innovation and technology transfer.
He rose through the scientific ranks to the position of Director General of NARO in 2003, starting from that of a Scientific officer in 1976. He has also worked in COMESA as Agricultural Development Manager responsible for the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), an AU/NEPAD Programme from 2006 to 2008, after which he returned to Uganda to start up the Africa Innovations Institute based in Kampala. He has several awards from national and global institutions such as the British Royal Society of London, rotary International Vocational Award, the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE), African Crop Science Society, National Agricultural Research Organisation, the Presidents Science Excellence Award, lifetime Achievement Award and International Society for Tropical Root Crops.
